Gartner's 2026 Market Guide for Managed Mobility Services confirms what's been building for a few years now: MMS isn't judged on uptime and unit cost alone anymore. Gartner points to three trends now defining the market: AI integration, sustainability and employee experience, and finds the business case for MMS has shifted from purely cost-centric to employee-centric, pulling in stakeholders well beyond IT and procurement, including HR and security.
At the same time, many organizations are taking a harder look at their mobile fleets, reassessing which roles actually need a device in order to cut excess inventory, control cost and reduce waste.
Providers are responding in kind. AI is moving MMS from reactive troubleshooting to predictive, proactive operations, flagging device issues before they disrupt frontline workers, automating financial workflows, and powering the virtual assistants now showing up on help desks. Sustainability reporting and carbon tracking are becoming standard expectations rather than differentiators. And SLAs are giving way to experience level agreements (XLAs), with some providers weighting them as high as 70% of a customer's health score.
